Support
How can we help?
Most answers are below. For anything else, email hello@hearl.app and a person will read it.
Email support
If something isn't working, tell us your iPhone model, your iOS version and what you tapped. Never send your password or card details.
Privacy requests
Access, export, correction or deletion of your data: privacy@hearl.app. Read the Privacy Policy.
Billing
Purchases go through the App Store. We can explain what you see, but only Apple can change a charge or issue a refund.
Account
How do I sign in?
Open Hearl and choose Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or your email address and a password. Hearl needs an account before anything else, because your minutes, library, progress, downloads and free series belong to it.
I forgot my password
On the email sign-in screen, tap Forgot password and enter your email. We send a link that opens Hearl so you can choose a new password. For your privacy, the app shows the same message whether or not the email has an account.
How do I sign out?
Profile, then Sign out. Signing out stops playback and removes your downloads from this iPhone. Everything else stays with your account.
Minutes and billing
What is a minute?
One minute of voiced audio uses one minute. Planning never uses minutes. If voicing fails or you cancel it before the audio exists, the minutes are returned and the app tells you how many. See pricing.
I bought something and my minutes haven't arrived
Purchases reach your account from Apple a few seconds after you buy. If your minutes still aren't there after a minute, open Profile and tap Restore purchases. If that doesn't help, email us with the date and time of the purchase.
How do I restore purchases?
Profile, then Restore purchases, or the same button on the purchase screen. Purchases stay with the Hearl account that made them, so sign in with that account first. If restoring finds nothing for this account, the app says so.
How do I cancel my membership?
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Hearl, then Cancel Subscription.
You can also get there from Hearl: Profile, then Manage subscription. You keep your membership and its minutes until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your Hearl account does not cancel a membership, so cancel it first.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles every App Store refund. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, choose I'd like to, then Request a refund, and pick the Hearl purchase.
Do minutes expire?
Membership minutes expire at the end of each billing month. Pack minutes never expire. When you have both, membership minutes are used first.
Listening
Does audio keep playing when I lock my phone?
Yes. Playback continues in the background and across screens, with controls on the lock screen and in Control Center. The mini-player above the tabs takes you back to the full player.
Can I listen offline?
Download an episode or a whole series and it plays without a connection. Downloads stay on your iPhone until you remove them or sign out.
Can Hearl tell me when an episode is ready?
Yes. After your first plan or voicing request, Hearl asks whether you'd like a notification when a plan or an episode is ready. Nothing else is sent. Change it any time in iPhone Settings, Notifications, Hearl.
Sources
Which files can I add?
PDF, Word (.docx), plain text and Markdown files up to 20 MB and 200 pages each, web page links, or text you paste. A series can use up to 10 of your own sources, and you can add up to 30 a day.
Why couldn't Hearl use a link?
Some pages can't be read: sites that ask automated readers to stay away in their robots.txt, pages behind a login or paywall, social networks and video sites, pages over 20 MB, and anything that isn't a web page, PDF or text. The plan still goes ahead with your other sources and Hearl's research. How HearlBot reads pages.
Your data
How do I export my data?
Profile, then Export my data. You get one file with your profile, series, episodes and transcripts, sources, listening history and minutes history, plus links to your audio that work for an hour. You can export once an hour.
How do I delete my account?
- Cancel any membership first (see above). Deleting your account does not cancel it.
- In Hearl, open Profile, then Delete account.
- Confirm. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple asks you to confirm once more.
Deletion starts straight away and can't be undone. We remove your series, episodes, audio, sources, listening history, minutes, notification tokens and your sign-in account. Unused minutes are lost. Can't open the app? Email privacy@hearl.app from the address on your account.
Who can see my series?
Only you. There is no sharing or public profile in Hearl. The five free series are the same for everyone.
A note on accuracy
Episodes are written and voiced by AI from your sources and web research. They can get things wrong, so check the sources shown with every episode. For medical, legal or financial decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
